Back in west Texas to settle her grandfather's “fantastic inheritance”, Julia Starling, Jewels to her friends, finds herself less than thrilled at the dilapidated house and desolate surrounding environment her grandfather has so graciously left behind. Hitting the local bar with her BFF becomes her first fateful mistake, as the local sexy authority figure warns her against staying, a seedy looking man of Mexican descent offers her a job should she plan to stick around, and the local Native American football legend offers her his own form of attention.
Leaving is the first agenda on Jewels' mind, only coming to the realization that she can't escape what her grandfather left behind for her to deal with, because there are entirely too many ghosts to put to rest. Soon Jewels finds herself propositioned by the local sheriff, married to a husband she doesn't want, and falling into the clutches of the same man who doesn't appear to understand the words “hell no.”
Swirling around the turmoil of her first and only heartache, Jewels finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime, one which refuses to completely release her from it clutches, revealing secrets of her families past and bringing her first initial heartache back around for a second chance.
