Janie Owens

Janie Owens is traditionally and self-published, sometimes under the name Elizabeth Owens. She started her career by writing two columns for two newspapers. Llewellyn Worldwide then published five nonfiction instructional books. Janie won an award with the second book, Best Biographical/Personal Book from the Coalition of Visionary Resources, in 2002. Next Chapter Publishing recently released two novels in the 50-Plus Condo series, The Murder and The Daughter.

Some of Janie’s interests are reading, painting, and travel. Janie and her husband Vincent are animal lovers, as is evident in Janie’s books. They have rescued many furbabies over the years, especially older ones. Both cats and dogs reside peacefully (most of the time) in their large central Florida home. However, if you’ve ever owned Chihuahuas, you know that quiet is not often heard. Bina and Peewee keep life interesting for the cats – and humans.

Goldilocks

She found a red substance spread all over the cement and sprinkled on the windows of her salon. Is this blood? Her next thought: Where is the body?

After a divorcee returns home to Daytona Beach to start over, she opens a hair salon named Goldilocks, renting an apartment above. Expecting her new life to be calmer than with a drunken husband, Abby makes friends with the diverse shop owners along Beach Street, a police Sargent named Jack, and Mark, her fireman neighbor. Having a big heart, Abby embraces her young, naive employee, Ivy, when she announces she is pregnant. She also befriends a homeless woman named Rose and is determined to return her to her former life.

Everything changes when blood is found at the entrance of the salon, but no body. Abby fears the victim is Rose, and attempts to solve the mystery of her disappearance. In an opposites-attract situation, Jack romances Abby while discouraging her amateur attempts to solve the case and compassionate emotion toward the homeless. But in the wings is the muscular fireman who comes to her rescue when Abby’s ex-husband pays her several unwanted visits. But where is Mark when Abby finds herself in a life-threatening situation with a revenge-seeking, behemoth homeless man? Will the mystery finally be solved regarding Rose’s disappearance?

Goldilocks places a focus on the unique storyline of the homeless situation, delivering understanding and compassion.
